Brazil and the United Arab Emirates have announced several deals on climate control and embracing biofuels during Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visit to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed.

The countries said in a joint statement the leaders had discussed a range of subjects and announced several deals, including the UAE-controlled Mataripe refinery in northeastern Brazil to invest up to $2.5 billion in a biodiesel project in the region.

The countries said they had agreed to work together to “encourage ambitious climate action” from the rest of the world.

The UAE is Brazil’s second-largest trading partner in the Middle East,  trade excluding oil products totalled more than four million dollars last year, representing a 32-percent rise from 2021.
